The Pressure to Be Productive During the Coronavirus Pandemic
This first Dishing It Up story highlights ways to cut ourselves slack when it comes to pressure to be productive.  “To the extent that the need to accomplish something, upgrading, makes you feel psychologically better, then its a good thing,” … but … “[If you feel like] if I don’t come back here with some upgrade to myself, some 2.0 version of myself, then that good thing, that distraction that should be a relief from the anxiety, becomes a second source of anxiety.”

Right Now, We All Need a Little More Marcella
“Italian cookbook legend Marcella Hazan preached for years about the need for radical simplicity in cooking.  These days, we’re all listening.”  This article provides some of her simply delectable recipes, including her famous Tomato Sauce with Butter and Onion.  “You simply combine a can of tomatoes, a halved peeled onion, a couple pats of butter, and a bit of salt and pepper in a pot and set it to simmer for 45 minutes”.  I make it all the time and its waaaay better than anything you’ll find in the grocery store!

Or perhaps some Nat’s What I Reckon
Like Marcella, Aussie comedian and unlikely YouTube cooking star Nat will have you “say no to jar sauce”.  Check out his Quarantine Sauce or his End of Days Bolognese.  As Nat says, “Just have a go, you’re more talented than you realise.”  His language is pretty spicy (sweary), however, and perhaps not to everyone’s taste.  As I lost a subscriber over “inappropriate language” in my COVID-Coping post, I thought I’d best provide a content warning.  So consider yourself warned…

Discover The Joy Of Movement
Movement has been saving my sanity while in lockdown.  This podcast with Dr. Kelly McGonigal about her new book, the The Joy of Movement: How exercise helps us find happiness, hope, connection, and courage, helped me understand why.  She “explains how even the simplest of movements provide an immediate reset for your mood and brain chemistry.  And she shares ground-breaking new research that shows how repeatedly contracting any muscles, through continuous exercise, releases anti-depressant substances called myokines that scientists have dubbed ‘hope molecules’.”  I can’t wait to try out my new skipping rope this weekend!

A “Moving” Story: 100 year old WWII Vet Raises £30 million for NHS
While on the topic of exercise, I simply had to share this very moving story about, well, moving.  Weeks before his 100th birthday, British WWII veteran Captain Tom Moore began his fundraising mission for charities that help front-line National Health Service staff battling the COVID-19 crisis by completing laps of his garden with the help of a walking frame.  He initially set out to raise £1,000.  But as he celebrated his centenary, the amount topped £30 million (C$52 million), the Guinness World Record for the most money raised by an individual through a walk!  On his birthday, he was celebrated with an RAF flypast and a promotion to Honorary Colonel!
