Spring Forward Toward Restful Sleep
Those of us switching to daylight saving time this weekend will lose an hour, one which usually comes from our sleep.  And it may take days to get our internal clocks back on track.  Read on for tips on making the transition so you can rest easier.  I plan to forgo Netflix in favour of a warm bath and an early night but may enjoy a beer too!  😉  Sleep is serious business, though, particularly as sleep deprivation weakens our immune systems.

There’s an Epidemic That’s a Bigger Threat Than the Coronavirus
Speaking of consuming excess sugar, this is an interesting perspective from Dr. David Katz, Director, Yale Prevention Research Center, comparing the epidemics of poor diet and coronavirus.  “Poor overall diet quality is the single leading cause of premature death in the United States today, causing an estimated 500,000 or so deaths each year. That is more than ten times worse than a fairly bad strain of influenza, monumentally worse than coronavirus thus far, and happens every year.”

Half the Sugar, All the Love
For those times when you really wish to savour something sweet, have a look at the cookbook Half the Sugar, All the Love, “with 100 doctor-approved recipes that cut the sugar (by half—or more!) without sacrificing the flavors our families love.”  I saw the author interviewed and loved her approach to using ripe fruits and vegetables (with their fibre) as natural sweeteners as well as spices (such as cinnamon) to boost flavour while allowing the body to process sugar in a healthier way.
