My wedding anniversary is coming up next week and, wow, twenty years has just flown by. So yes, it’s true, time flies when you are having fun! And it is also true that aging is an inevitable part of life.
But aging is also a process and, while it cannot be reversed, we can make choices that may help slow this process down. So this month I’m dishing it up on aging!
And just in case you were wondering, no, that is not me and my husband in the photo. He still has more hair than that. 😉

Unfortunately, nutrient deficiencies and malnutrition can persist for a long time before they show up in physical signs or symptoms. Still, there are a few indicators you — and your doctor — can watch for.”

Avoiding late-night meals may have anti-aging benefits
This study published in May was done on mice. “If the findings hold true for humans, they suggest that to maximize lifespan people should reduce their calorie intake and avoid eating late at night.”

Alcohol consumption patterns and unhealthy aging among older lifetime drinkers
This study indicates that, overall, alcohol consumption was associated with unhealthier aging, particularly in the areas of morbidities (i.e., incidences of diseases) and functional impairments. However, this association was evident only in participants with a moderate or high frequency of alcohol consumption. It was not evident in participants who drank occasionally. So an occasional glass of wine, particularly with a meal, isn’t likely doing you much harm. Phew! I feel much better about popping the cork on that bottle of bubbly for our anniversary!

The Queen’s secret to ageing gracefully
The Queen just celebrated her Platinum Jubilee! So I’ve included this article on her secret to ageing gracefully. I imagine she’s consuming lots of produce from Prince Charles’ Duchy Organics. And it certainly helps to have personal chefs to transform them into healthful meals. But according to this article, the secret is her dedication to duty and belief in moderation and routine. As for why the Queen has such beautiful skin, “She doesn’t partake in an annual sunshine holiday, preferring instead to spend her summers in Scotland. This has kept her skin as youthful as possible over the years.” So there you have it. Holiday in Scotland and draw the line at a dram of Dalwhinnie. You’ll be golden in your platinum years!
